Root Canal Retreatment

Even though modern endodontic therapy has a high success rate, on occasion, as with any dental or medical procedure, a tooth that has been treated with a root canal may not heal as expected after initial treatment, for a variety of reasons.

It may even become painful or diseased months or years following the initial treatment. An endodontic retreatment can give your tooth a second chance. Your endodontist will discuss all of your treatment options before anything begins.

With CBCT 3-D imaging and microscope magnification, we can find missed canals, hidden cracks and persistent infection that were impossible to see the first time around.

What to expect

  • A detailed exam, pulp testing and CBCT scan reach an accurate diagnosis first
  • We explain every option, with advantages and disadvantages
  • Retreatment is usually completed in about an hour per visit
  • If retreatment is not viable, apicoectomy may be recommended
